The UEPL project facilitates traffic flow from the state capital Chennai to other major cities, economic hubs, and religious centres of Tamil Nadu, and the eastern parts of Kerala. The 72.9-km-long toll road, part of NH132 and NH38 (formerly NH45) in Tamil Nadu, runs from Tindivanam to Ulundurpet.
